STEM and Access to Education

Across the globe, women have continued to suffer from extreme examples of patriarchal societies that keep them from receiving the same access to education as their male counterparts for generations. Aside from improving women’s general welfare, access to Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths is also important for our increasingly global economy. From infant mortality to the spread of diseases, women are facing a variety of challenges — challenges that education can help fight.

  • Number of girls between the age of 16 and 17 out of school: 130 million

  • Number of girls who will never enter a classroom: 15 million

  • Percentage of women among 796 million illiterate people: 66.67%
